I would also suggest instead of just running the exe file from inside the zip to actually extract it to a hard disc folder either on your desktop or on the root of your C drive.
If it is a list (they are usually zipped) fine the one it is asking for open it up and install it. If you browse the contents of the disc there should be a Direct X folder, if you go in there it will either have just the version you need or a long list of different earlier versions.
